The a small courtyard of a Woodstock home, my client wanted a Japanese-inspired garden while keeping existing plants (Tea Olives, Arborvitae, Japanese Maple, and Creeping Jenny) and introducing native plants.

She already had the foundation of a Japanese maple, so I worked around that and I added a stone lantern and stone basin fountain in the corner of the courtyard, surrounded by native Ohio Spiderwort and Foxglove Beardtongue and a short bamboo fence to add visual interest.

On the other bed, I added a Blackhaw Vibernum, which gives a cherry blossom feel, as the specimen shrub surrounded by Christmas Fern, Creeping Juniper, Plantain Sedge, existing Creeping Jenny, and more Ohio Spiderwort and Foxglove Beardtongue, complete with a small stone lantern and accent boulders.
